In a retail landscape where pricing pressure, product range demands, and supply consistency can make or break a business, independent hardware and DIY stores need more than just good instincts, they need strong networks. That’s where Elite Star Trading (EST) comes in.
As South Africa’s leading voluntary buying group for the hardware and DIY sector, EST continues to connect independent retailers with trusted suppliers, negotiated deals, and business support that boosts buying power while preserving independence. And this value proposition was on full display at our recent Regional Trade Shows in KwaZulu-Natal, Johannesburg and Cape Town.

Held at the Durban ICC in June and Gallagher Convention Centre in early July, the shows brought together suppliers, store owners, and decision-makers for two high-energy, high-impact events. From exclusive show-day specials and hands-on product showcases to meaningful supplier engagements, both events created a vibrant space for dealmaking and long-term relationship building.

Strong Turnout, Stronger Connections
To maximise retailer participation, EST hosted its shareholder AGMs alongside each regional show. Presentations by EST Directors Louis Greef and Rob Suttle were timed strategically in the late morning, which ensured a steady flow of visitors who arrived early and stayed for the duration of the day.
Suppliers welcomed this format. With more uninterrupted time to engage directly with store owners, conversations were deeper, orders more considered, and new relationships formed, many of which will convert into long-term business partnerships.

Practical Support with EST Hospitality
True to EST style, refreshments were provided throughout the day, with lunch served to keep everyone fuelled and focused. This simple hospitality touch helps create a relaxed environment where business can be done without distraction or pressure.
Results That Matter
Feedback from suppliers was overwhelmingly positive. Several brands at the KZN show reported new store sign-ups and on-the-spot orders, making their investment in the event not just worthwhile, but immediately profitable. The Johannesburg event was equally energetic, with the exhibition floor buzzing from open to close.

Strength in Numbers
Whether it’s negotiating better pricing, simplifying the supply chain, or giving members a platform to grow, EST continues to deliver tangible value, both at the negotiating table and in real-time, face-to-face forums like our regional trade shows.
Thank you to all our participating suppliers, store owners, and shareholders who made these events a success. We look forward to building on this momentum as we strengthen our network across the country.
